10 Of The Best Looks From Beyoncé’s Visual Album

It’s been one week since Beyoncé sent the internet in a frenzy after silently dropping her self-titled fifth album exclusively on iTunes, selling over 800,000 copies worldwide in just three days. According to Ty Hunter, Beyoncé’s longtime stylist, the top-secret project has been in the works for nearly two years. All 17 music videos were shot over the past year during The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour with the help of 5 other stylists — B. Åkerlund, Lysa Cooper, Marni Senofonte, Karen Langley and Raquel Smith. Here’s a break down of 10 of her best looks from the unprecedented visual album:

1. “Blow” — Directed by Hype Williams and styled by Lysa Cooper

Beyoncé transports us back in time to the ’70s disco era sporting a custom YONCÉ nameplate necklace by BASIL&PAPE, vintage DKNY leggings, Isabel Marant Fall 2013 ‘Scarlet’ wedge sneakers and a $40,000 black and yellow Versace Intarsia Mink Fur Coat.

2. “Pretty Hurts” — Directed by Melina Matsoukas and styled by B. Åkerlund:

“Miss 3rd Ward” shows us the price she’s willing to pay in search of perfection. The beauty pageant contestant exercises in an Adidas headband, WAH Hideway print bodysuit and leggings, $285 leather ‘Spider Gloves’ by Perrin Paris, double cross earrings by Lynn Bann, white Zara Platform Bluchers and a padlocked Dolce & Gabbana metal corset belt.

She first wore the belt on the red carpet at the 2007 BET Awards.

3. “Heaven” — Directed by Beyoncé and Todd Tourso (her creative director) and styled by Ty Hunter & Raquel Smith:

One of her more demure looks in a black Dolce & Gabbana lace dress from their F/W 2013 collection and a $385 Eugenia Kim ‘Honey’ black floppy hat.

4. “Drunk in Love” — Directed by Hype Williams and styled by Lysa Cooper

“That was shot by Miami, in a private area. It took some time — well, the props and set took a long time — but the outfit you see in the video, she was supposed to wear three different outfits. But when Jay Z saw her outfit, he said [to Beyoncé], “You’re wearing that the whole time.” She looked so banging there was no need to change. She’s wearing an Eres bathing suit,Wendy Nicohl dress and all the jewelry is by Jennifer Fisher. The Eres piece is vintage, it’s actually my bathing suit from the ’90s.” [THR]

5. “Yoncé” — Directed by Ricky Saiz and styled by Lysa Cooper

A scantily-clad Beyoncé  introduces her new alter ego in a 2011 peach Hervé Legér by Max Azria one-piece bathing suit. Shot in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood,  the video also co-stars supermodels Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls and Chanel Iman.

6.  “Jealous” — Directed by Beyoncé, Todd Tourso (her newly appointed creative director) & Francesco Carrozzini and styled by Lysa Cooper

Using a technique that dates back to 16th and 17th century Russia, this handmade Ulyana Sergeenko Vologda Lace pereline took three months for 15 people to complete. A sleek bun, Soft Paris Baroque Waist-Cincher, Repossi ‘Berbère’ Ear Cuff and red Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Bon-Ton’ Sandals make this look seriously sexy. Ulyana is one of my fashion inspirations so it’s great to see her getting this kind of exposure.

7. “No Angel” — Directed by @LILINTERNET and styled by Ty Hunter & Raquel Smith

The singer takes us to the Brunswick suburb in Melbourne, Australia, where she pays tribute to H-Town in an all white look, including a $199 plus-size Robyn Lawley ‘Almost French’ one-piece swimsuit.

8.  Another look from “Jealous”

Wearing a beautiful lace cape from the Thierry Mugler F/W 1995 Haute Couture archive.

9. “Partition” — Directed by Jake Nava and styled by B. Åkerlund

Mrs. Carter puts her freakier side on display in a $1,000 black Jean Paul Gaultier for La Perla ‘Rubans’ bodysuit with La Perla stockings and suede Larare suspenders underneath a $13,000 Alaïa Doubled Breasted Python Coat. A Maison Michel trilby hat, vintage Lynn Ban earrings and fingerless lace Chanel gloves completed her provocative look, while signature Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ pumps in red and glossy red lips added just the right pop of color.

Fun fact: Jake Nava directed her 2003 “Crazy in Love” video.

10. “Haunted” — Directed by Jonas Åkerlund and styled by B. Åkerlund

In this nod to Madonna, Beyoncé is almost unrecognizable dressed in a gorgeous Ulyana Sergeenko F/W 2013 velvet bodysuit with contrast Victorian ruffled high neck and Emilio Cavallini tights, paired with $1100 Tom Ford padlock ankle-strap pumps and David Webb ‘Either/Or Either’ earrings. Her pearl bracelet is by Gasoline Glamour.
