OFW S/S 2013: Moving Forward In Style

Canada’s national capital was abuzz with excitement when the eighth season of Ottawa Fashion Week (OFW) took over Little Italy from October 12-14 as 22 North American designers showcased their Spring/Summer 2013 collections   at the Sala San Marco hall on Fashion Boulevard. The 3-day event attracted thousands of fashion lovers and many local celebrities.

Memorable collections were shown by Project Runway finalist Korto Momolu, designer duo Jana Hanzel & Emilia Torabi, Prophetik by Jeff Garner, and Y!D.N.A by Andy Nguyen whose presentation consisted of male models in black latex briefs twirling umbrellas covered in golden glitter as they showered guests in the front row. Ottawa-based Genevieve Lima heated up the runway with bold prints in flowing silk that immediately conjured up images of white sand beaches, cocktails, and palm trees. On the final day, UNICEF Canada hosted a charity event to close the show that featured passionate salsa dancers spinning up and down the runway, CTV broadcasters strutting their stuff down the catwalk, international Soprano singer Measha Bruggergosman and more. UNICEF Canada Ambassador Solange Tuyishime gave a touch speeching and afterwards three of the dresses from the runway show were made available to guests in a silent auction.

The fun did not end there as across the street was a marketplace with boutique-style shopping, live music by local artists like Retro Future Music, and a truly sate buffet. To sum it all up, Ottawa Fashion Week has left us anticipating its return.
