AMTI Showcase 2012
Without a doubt, Angie’s Models & Talent International is one of Canada’s leading agencies. Owner Angie Sakla-Seymour has been in the industry for over 20 years and has contributed to the success of actor Ryan Gosling, MTV VJ Aliya Jasmine, and Canadian supermodel Herieth Paul.
This year, Angie teamed up with Bayshore Shopping Centre to showcase her impressive roster and give us a look at summer’s hottest trends. Located in West Ottawa, Bayshore is currently undergoing a $200-million, 160000 sq. ft. expansion project which is expected to create 400 permanent new jobs, providing a much-needed boost to the city’s economy.
On the night of Saturday, May 26, I arrived fashionably late to the 13th annual AMTI showcase held at the Canadian War Museum. The annual invitation-only event is attended by scouts and casting agents from across Canada and all over the world, including the who’s who in local fashion and media. Music was courtesy of Mansion Nightclub’s resident DJ Ilon T. Throughout the night, I snapped photos of a few stylish attendees.
Some of the night’s most noteworthy collections were from Canadian designers DeMoyo, Kania, Khala Morgan, and Sukhoo Sukhoo, to name a few. Lida Boutique‘s fabulous pieces by Michael Kors, DVF, and Nicole Miller elicited oohs and aahs, while sexy swimwear by Amber Watkins and GoldenFish screamed vacation in the South of France. Statement accessories shown by frAsh and Demu Label were perfect for the fashionistas who love to stand out from the crowd. Speaking of fashionistas, I positively LOVED the Amy Scarlett dress worn by Event Manager Grace Odumo of SocialPR.
But the icing on the cake came when Canadian Couturier David McCaffrey presented a stunning collection specially designed for Angie’s showcase. His elaborate use of tulle and sequin made my heart skip a beat. Top model Herieth Paul, who was declared the next Naomi Campbell by ELLE Canada, closed the show.
Afterwards, during my chat with David backstage, I bumped into the wonderful guys, James and Daniel, from Blackbook Lifestyle, and Makeup Artist Vilma Aya.
One VIP guest was so smitten with a McCaffrey sequined mini that she attempted to purchase it on the spot.
I also caught up with Angie and her daughter Helena-Alexis, both of who wore one-of-a-kind pieces by McCaffrey.
This was my second time attending Angie’s showcase and I must say it was definitely bigger and better than last year. I look forward to seeing what she does next!
