New York Knicks Head Coach Mike D’Antoni RESIGNS!
Following the team’s second sixth consecutive loss this season, Mike D’Antoni has resigned as the head coach of the New York Knicks. His departure comes amid reports that the Knicks’ franchise player Carmelo Anthony was at odds with D’Antoni and would request a trade unless he had assurances that D’Antoni would not return next season.
Anthony denied there was a rift with D’Antoni. “I support Mike 100 percent regardless of what is going on as far as us losing basketball games,” he said. “We all need each other right now and this is the best time to come together and stick with one another because there’s a lot of things being said out there about Mike, about myself, and it’s just a bunch of nonsense right now.’’
Assistant coach Mike Woodson will reportedly serve as the interim head coach, starting at Wednesday night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers.
The Knicks have lost eight of their last 10 games since Anthony’s return from a groin injury and are currently tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the eight and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
