Earlier today, The Hype Life Magazine posted a story that Vybz Kartel, along with 7 other prisoners, escaped from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road. Even going as far as to say that it was “the biggest prison break in Jamaican history.”

The fake jail break story was complete with guards held at gunpoint, smuggled guns, a timeline, and even a “statement” from the Head of the Criminal Investigations Branch that Kartel was placed on “Jamaica’s Most Wanted” list. The end result? Several media outlets, including MTV UK, Bossip, and Global Grind, ran the story. Vybz even ended up peaking at number four on Twitter’s list of trending topics.

In the aftermath, I managed to speak to the man behind the article via Twitter. His name is David Meikle and he also happens to be the owner of The Hype Life Magazine. Check out the impromptu interview after the cut.

Shortly after that last tweet, he posted a public apology. However, it’s clear by his replies that he isn’t as remorseful as he is excited about all the attention the story has generated for his website.
