PHOTOS: Heavy D’s Star-Studded Private Funeral
Rap pioneer Heavy D, born Dwight Errington Myers, was laid to rest at a private funeral service at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY on Friday (November 18). Several of Hev’s celebrity friends showed up to pay their last respects including Diddy, Jay-Z, Queen Latifah, Samuel L. Jackson, Usher, and many more.
During the service, a heartfelt note from President Obama was read by the Rev. Al Sharpton.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.” read Obama’s note. “He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
Heavy D passed away at the young age of 44. Although he was reportedly suffering from pneumonia, the autopsy results were ruled inconclusive. He is survived by his parents, a brother, a sister, and his 11-year-old daughter.
