Mariah Carey Announces Break From The Spotlight
Mariah Carey has decided to take a break from the spotlight following her infamous New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance in Times Square, Page Six reports. Earlier this week, the singer announced that she would be taking a break from “media moments” and “social media moments” to prepare for her upcoming Sweet Fantasy World Tour in March.
“I haven’t really addressed the situation of what happened on New Year’s Eve and in time, I will,” said Mariah in an audio message to her fans posted on Twitter. “But for now, I want everyone to know that I came to New Year’s Eve in New York in great spirits and was looking forward to a celebratory moment with the world. It’s a shame that we were put into the hands of a production team with technical issues that chose to capitalize on circumstances beyond our control.”
The singer continued, “They foiled me . . . it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me.” Her camp has maintained that her earpiece malfunctioned and accused Dick Clark Productions, which produced the show for ABC, of sabotaging her NYE performance for ratings. However, network sources told TMZ that Mariah chose to skip her sound check and had a stand-in do it instead. In a statement, DCP dismissed the singer’s allegations as “defamatory, outrageous and, frankly, absurd.”
The singer concluded her message to fans by saying that it’s time for her to “finally take a moment for myself.”
