2016 Grammys Red Carpet Looks
On Monday night, Feb. 15, the 2016 Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with LL Cool J hosting once again. The 58th annual award ceremony marked the rapper and actor’s fourth consecutive year as emcee.
Noticeably absent on the red carpet were Drake, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Rihanna, who reportedly cancelled her performance at the last minute due to bronchitis. But the show did go on.
The biggest fashion trends of the night were thigh-high slits, plunging necklines, sequin embellishments and cutout details. Overall, I thought this year’s red carpet was pretty underwhelming with the exception of the few looks below that are worth mentioning.
Ciara turned heads in a risqué black and silver sequined Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring 2016 sheer wrap gown, styled with black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals. Her pair is no longer up for grabs but you can check out the other styles here.
2. Carrie Underwood
Country superstar Carrie Underwood wore a black Nicolas Jebran Fall 2015 Couture gown and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Her strapless gown featured a ruffled bust, sweetheart neckline, thigh-high slit and oversized bow detail.
3. Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift debuted her blonde bob in a custom orange bandeau and hot pink satin maxi skirt with matching underwear by Atelier Versace. She paired the two-piece ensemble with metallic Stuart Weitzman platform sandals. The singer took home the Grammy for Album of the Year.
Lady Gaga paid tribute to the late David Bowie in a custom electric blue Marc Jacobs coatdress and orange mullet wig inspired by the rock legend’s Ziggy Stardust alter ego. Her double-breasted satin coatdress is embroidered with multi-colored sequins and decorative metallic elements by Maison Lesage, France’s oldest embroidery house in Paris.
She finished the look with glittery blue eyeshadow and sky-high red platforms.
5. Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez had two outfit changes. She walked the red carpet in a custom midnight blue Calvin Klein collection sequin gown, which she wore with Giuseppe Zanotti heels. The cleavage-baring gown features spaghetti straps, a crisscross back and side cutouts. Norman Silverman diamond hoop earrings and a green cocktail ring by David Webb completed her glittery look.
6. Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Sullivan gets a Best Dressed nod in this custom black Michael Costello mermaid gown with sequin bodice, deep V-neck and exaggerated bell sleeves. Red lips gave her the perfect pop of colour .
Adele showed off her slimmer figure in a black Givenchy Haute Couture sequin-embellished gown with velvet trim. Her custom made gown features a cinched waist, three-quarter length sleeves and shoulder slashes.
9. Alessandra Ambrosio
Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio wore Look 18 from the Atelier Versace Spring 2016 Haute Couture collection and open-toe Giuseppe Zanotti Fringed Sandals with metallic embellishments.
The cut-out gown features a thigh-high slit and thick straps across the back. This was almost a yes for me but the back threw me off. What do you think?
