Rihanna in Guo Pei 2015 Met Gala
Our best dressed pick at this year’s Met Gala goes to Rihanna in Guo Pei, styled by Mel Ottenberg. Always a fashion risk taker, the singer owned the night’s theme “China: Through the Looking Glass” in a breathtaking 55 pound yellow fur-trimmed, embroidered cape with an elaborate train, which took the Chinese couturier one year and 8 months to make by hand. While there are a ton of memes floating around mocking this work of art, we have to point out that yellow was the color of ancient imperial China and China’s first emperor Huangdi was known as the “Yellow Emperor.” Clearly our girl did her homework!
The original look from the Fall 2010 couture collection included a gold corset and ruffled tiered skirt but Rihanna opted for a custom hot pink Agent Provocateur bustier that matched the cape’s satin lining.
The songstress completed the majestic look with a Guo Pei headpiece, Cartier jewelry and Naeem Khan x Christian Louboutin ‘Toerless Muse’ pumps.
