VIDEO: Amber Riley Sings “I Will Always Love You” On Glee

On last night’s episode of Glee, Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes, sang Whitney Houston’s classic hit “I Will Always Love You,” which was originally written and recorded by Doll Parton. Glee producers had reportedly already planned on covering the song on their Valentine’s Day episode prior to Whitney’s untimely death. The show’s musical supervisor P.J. Bloom told the Hollywood Reporter

“We chose to do the song and Ryan Murphy (Glee co-creator) chose to do the song to honor one of the great hits of all time. Obviously, we could not predict the unfortunately circumstances that happened this weekend but at the same time instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it’s nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry.”

The producers dedicated Tuesday’s episode titled “Heart” to the late singer, ending the show with a title card that read, “Whitney Houston 1963-2012. We will always love you.”

Ironically, the actress met Whitney Houston for the first time at Kelly Price’s pre-Grammy party last Thursday.
