SHAOLIN STYLE: RZA Talks Producing On “Watch The Throne” Album
In a new interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA talks about how he came to produce the track titled “New Day” for Jay-Z and Kanye’s highly anticipated “Watch The Throne” album. Currently, the super producer is in China directing The Man With the Iron Fists, a martial arts movie starring Russell Crowe. Don’t put him in a box though; in addition to being a producer, rapper, and director, RZA is also a successful composer, screenwriter, actor, and author.
On getting to work on Watch The Throne:
“I’m really honored to be a part of the project. These two are obviously very capable in their own right, so to include me in this classic project is a testament of how much respect we share for one another.”
On Kanye reaching out to him last December:
“Kanye asked me to send tracks while they were in Australia. I just thought I would send some shit that would be rugged. I know they can find the poppy, hip-hop places, but I wanted to send them some real edgy shit. Apparently they thought they were great – Kanye said, ‘Send some more of that Wu shit!’”
On Jay-Z’s failed collaboration with R. Kelly and why this project will be different:
“In the past, when Jay-Z did Best of Both Worlds with R. Kelly, I thought it was a great album but the campaign went south because of personalities. With this project, it’s the best of many worlds. These two guys have a great chemistry and a great relationship. I’m excited.”
